1997 PacWest Racing Team driver in PPG Cup World CART Series. He had an excellent season coming first at Portland, Toronto and California and second at Michigan and Laguna Seca. At Detroit he ran out of fuel just before the final turn and coasted to a stop about 300 feet from the finish line, finishing 17 after having been the race leader.
1996 Rookie season in PPG World IndyCar Series with PacWest Racing, finishing 3rd in Rookie of the Year. Finished 16th in PPG Cup drivers Championship, overall Valvoline Award Winner, British Racing Drivers Club North American Award.
1995 McLaren F1 Grand Prix driver, with 5 top six finishes, including 4th in Italy and Australia. 10th at the World Drivers Championship.
